VALEDICTORIAN SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE 3RD EDL GRADUATES REP (RACHEL KISYULA)

The Vice Chancellor International Leadership University Ghana Prof. Eric Anum, the General Secretary All Africa Theological Education by Extension Dr. Kangwa Mabuluki, The Executive Diploma in Leadership Faculty, Distinguished Guests, Esteemed Leaders, Fellow
Graduates, Family, and Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen;Â Good morning/afternoon.Â
My name is Rachel Kisyula fromKenya.Â
It is with great humility and deep gratitude that I stand here on behalf of the graduating class of the Executive Diploma in Leadership, cohort 3. Today marks more than just the end of an academic program, it is the celebration of a collective transformation, a refining of purpose, and a commissioning into a greater calling.
We are a diverse class, men and women who emerged from different countries, various backgrounds and Professions. Among us are esteemed church leaders, Chief Executive Officers, Engineers. Entrepreneurs, and professionals from various sectors. Though we came from different paths, we found a common ground, driven by a passion to grow, to serve, and to lead with excellence.
When many of us joined this program we came with apprehension. Some of us were unsure of why we had enrolled, others came into this program for personal gain, the prestige of the title or even to add another certificate to our collection! To add on to this, there were many opposing forces, tight work schedules, responsibilities, and voices pulling us back and throwing a shadow of doubt to this pursuit. But what began with so much uncertainty soon turned into a journey of self-discovery, growth and Transformation.
Through-out this program, we have been challenged, stretched, and sharpened through the Modules that we explored. To highlight a few: Change Leadership challenged us to lead with clarity and courage; Emotional Intelligence drove us to an awareness and mastery of our emotions; Self-Leadership equipped us with Strategies for our effectiveness as leaders; Mentoring and Coaching taught us how to Empower others through guidance and growth and Ethical Leadership showed us how to harness Character and integrity in decision making. Collectively the units we studied guided and empowered us thorough –out the Transformation Projects that we have designed and continue to implement. Therefore, these were not just academic units, they became mirrors through which we examined ourselves and models through which we saw the kind of leadership our families, institutions, and nations need.
Friends, one undeniable truth is that Africa is calling for Authentic Leadership. Our continent is rich in potential, in resources, in Manpower, in innovation, and in promise. But we have persistently faced challenges in Leadership failure and Governance gaps, Economic instability and inequality, Youth unemployment, Corruption and mismanagement, Weak institutions and polarized communities.
These challenges are not just headlines; they are calls to action. And we, the graduates of this program, have been thoroughly prepared and positioned to respond. This course has reminded us that Transformational leadership is not about status or titles; it is about character, competence, vision, strategy, service, and courage. Africa does not need more bosses. She needs builders, listeners, change agents. Africa needs transformational leaders, and that is what we have been empowered to become.
To the faculty and our mentors: Thank you for being living examples of the principles you taught. You didn’t just give us tools; you gave us perspective and purpose; inspiring total Mindset change! You challenged and pushed us to implement the change we want to see right from within, in order to transform the world round us. THANK YOU!
To our families, churches, Institutions and organizations: your sacrifices, patience, and support gave us the space to grow. We are deeply grateful.
To my fellow graduates, what a remarkable journey it has been! Thank you for the conversations, the shared wisdom, and the friendships that have been formed. Now I challenge us to bring to life the networks created in this journey and collaborate to make Africa and the world a better place.
In Jeremiah 1:5, God says: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” This scripture speaks not just about identity but of intention and assignment. My fellow graduates, we have not just been empowered, we have been entrusted. And we must now return to our families, our churches and organizations, our communities, and our countries ready to lead with vision, values, and vulnerability. We are now custodians of a greater mission: To redefine leadership in Africa; To Empower others; To speak the truth; To rebuild trust; and To drive transformation, not from the top down, but from the inside out.
In closing, as we graduate today, we do not walk away, we step forward. Africa is watching, our churches and organizations are watching, our families are watching and ooh yes, the next generation is watching! Let us not disappoint them. On behalf of the graduating class of the 3rd Cohort of the Executive Diploma in Leadership; thank you for believing in us. We are ready to lead, ready to serve, and ready to impact.
May God bless you all, also long live the Executive Diploma in Leadership Program.
